Election Connection: Georgia Senate Runoff

Standard

There’s a lot going on here. Please read through the graphics, links, and information, and then use this post as your starting place. I will add information in new posts weekly.

We flipped Georgia blue for Joe and Kamala; we can flip the Senate blue and get to work for the American people.

Tomorrow is the first day that absentee ballots will begin to be mailed out.

The deadline for voter registration is December 7th. Even if you requested an absentee ballot for the general election, you MUST request a new one for the Jan. 5th runoff. Early voting begins December 14th.

Vote Save America is working with America Votes – Georgia to help make sure to help make sure the organizers who’ve been there 365 days a year are getting as much funding as the candidates themselves. There’s a ton of interest, energy, and donations flowing into the state, so America Votes – Georgia is making sure they get distributed directly as needed to groups that are having the biggest impact on the ground.

They include:

  • Asian American Advocacy Fund
  • Black Male Voter Project
  • Black Voters Matter
  • BlackPAC
  • Care in Action
  • Collective PAC
  • Color of Change
  • Georgia Alliance for Progress
  • Georgia Conservation Voters
  • Georgia Equality
  • Mijente
  • New Georgia Project Action Fund
  • Poder Latinx
  • UNITE HERE

Donate here to make sure Ossoff and Warnock get Every Last Vote.

The Get Mitch Fund will go directly to the two candidates.

Gratitude Scavenger Hunt – #1

Standard

Refer to the original post for the list.

1. Find something that makes you happy.

As with most of these lists, answers will vary depending on the time of year, my mood, and whatever else is going on in my life, so YMMV on these.

With Nanowrimo, spending some time at my local Starbucks makes me happy. It’s right in town, so I’m nearby if my family needs me to return home for any reason since we have only one car.

So what is that something that makes me happy?

My usual. And the cup says it all – That first sip feeling. (c)2020

A Gratitude Scavenger Hunt

Standard

With Thanksgiving in two weeks, the Election over, and despite the continuing pandemic, we do have much to be grateful for.

This graphic will give you eight days to have your own scavenger hunt for the things you hold dear, that you’re grateful for.

I’ll be following up this afternoon and throughout the eight days, although not in a row of where I hold my gratitude, especially this year.

Supernatural Lists: Hunter’s Lore

Standard

A large part of the Supernatural story is what it takes to be a hunter. It isn’t just killing monsters, eating cheeseburgers, and drinking beer although that seems to be a large part of it.

There’s research to be done, weapons and tools to be made, and a set of skills to learn, both in the “downtime” and on the job.

Here is my list of fifteen skills/Hunter’s Lore that Sam and Dean have picked up along the way, beginning with one of the most important ones –

  1. Hunter’s Journal, where the hunters keep their notes and references as well as contacts with other hunters, etc. Over the years as technology advanced, many of the functions of the Hunter’s Journal were supplemented by library research, laptop and/or tablet and online search engines. As Sam would say, “So, get this…”
  2. Anti-possession Symbol – as a charm to wear or a tattoo as the Winchesters have.
  3. Salt. Salt lines, salt circles. Keeps the ghosts at bay.
  4. Salt and burn the bones. Kills the ghosts and vengeful spirits.
  5. Iron. Gets rid of the ghosts.
  6. Lock picks and lock picking tools.
  7. Devil’s Trap
  8. Silver knives, letter openers. These can be used on shifters and werewolves.
  9. Head shots are used for vampires, ghouls, and others.
  10. Exorcizamus Te – the Demon expelling spell
  11. The Colt – kills nearly everything (unfortunately, not Lucifer)
  12. Angel Blade
  13. Archangel Blade
  14. Witch Killing Bullets
  15. Demon Knife (from Ruby)

What have I left out?

Election Connection: Georgia Senate Runoff

Standard

One week and one day ago was Election Day. I was under the impression that this series would conclude on that day, but it is 2020, and 2020 doesn’t allow us to simply move forward. It’s been an obstacle course since the beginning of the year.

While Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have won the Presidency and have already begun their transition despite Trump Administration obstacles, we still have a chance to take control of the Senate.

Control of the Senate will ensure that President Elect Biden can choose his own cabinet and pass laws that support his policy priorities without obstruction from current Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. He obstructed much of President Obama’s two terms, and all he cares about is his own power.

We need to get behind Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff who are the two Democratic candidates running in each of the two Georgia Senate runoffs.

Start with Fair Fight, Stacey Abrams organization. More information will be coming next week.

In the meantime, read this Vox article on Sen. David Perdue’s racism and this Judd Legum Twitter thread about Sen. Kelly Loeffler’s corruption.

Both Perdue and Loeffler used the covid pandemic to make money through their stocks instead of helping their constituents get through the health epidemic.

Do your research and help get Warnock and Ossoff into the Senate and Democratic control.

Friday Food on Tuesday. November.

Standard

I’m sure it’s expected that November’s Friday Food would be related to Thanksgiving. It’s related not to the day of Thanksgiving, but the feelings of giving thanks themselves.

After four years of tension, stress, and for many PTSD, we have elected Joe Biden the 46th President of the United States. His Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris is the first woman, first Black woman, first Indian-American woman to hold that office.

They were put over the top by the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and while this post is specifically about Philly, I would be remiss in not mentioning the role Black Women played in Joe Biden’s victory. We owe them a great debt of gratitutde.

In honor of Philadelphia’s role in pushing Biden and Harris over the 270 Electoral votes needed to win, my family went to a local place for cheesesteaks.

No better way to celebrate until Inauguration Day!

Election Connection: ELECTION DAY! IT’S HERE! IT’S NOW!

Standard

Today is Election Day; the last day of the 2020 Election to make your voice heard.

My Home Page is now temporarily an Election Resource Page. It includes voter protection hotlines including for the deaf and hard of hearing, some informative graphics from Vote Save America including how to volunteer and help people waiting in long lines.

When the polls close tonight, it will probably not be over. Here are a few resources to follow or get on email lists. It is also a good idea to support investigative journalism. I can’t afford a lot, but the two things I subscribed to in the last year or so are The Washington Post (on Kindle) and Cafe Insider, which features former US Attorney Preet Bharara and a few of his closest friends and associates who bring national security information to life on several podcasts with interviews on a variety of other subjects as well. These are both well worth the monthly subscription.

And of course, your own Representatives and Senators. Know who they are, know their online and phone information and continue to hold them accountable. They work for you.
