The Last Picture I Took: The Mockingjay
StandardSimply, I took this photo because I was writing a post about the book/movie Mockingjay (Movie, Part 1) and I needed a photo for the post.
That particular mockingjay was an impulse buy at a huge Toys R Us sale. It had that as well as a couple of amber stones and a bow with two arrows. Two Thanksgivings ago, I lost my silver bow and arrow that I’d had since the 90s, from when I was studying archery in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). I wanted the bow and arrow, and I’m a fan of archers – Robin Hood, Merida from Brave, Hawkeye from The Avengers, Green Arrow, Katniss; all of them. Soon after I finally watched the Hunger Games and Catching Fire, and I was drawn to those movies in a way that I hadn’t enjoyed a movie since Harry Potter. My son and I couldn’t wait for the Mockingjay movie to be released (as I’ve mentioned before) and I really got attached to the character and the symbols. At another sale (this one at FYE), I found what looks like a convention pass with a larger Mockingjay coin-like charm; trinket.
I am lover of trinkets.
Talismans.
Stones.
Medals.
So while the picture itself was really a simple thing, the overall meaning for me is the balance that a related photo or drawing brings to my writing. It brings in the more visual readers, and I’m also a big fan of symmetry; duality. Sort of like the blending of the jabberjays and the mockingbirds that give us the mockingjay.

StandardA Place for Everything and Everything in its Place
StandardA view from my corner office: I have a corner, a chair, built-in bookshelves, a file box, a table lamp, and a pile of organizational tools that I try to use to make myself more efficient; and if course, organized.
Sometimes, it works.
January is the perfect time to reorganize our offices and or lives, what with the cold, snowy weather that keeps us inside.
Here are a few of my office organization; some a bit more unusual than others.

This was a rooster-style book and paper holder from Cracker Barrel, for the kitchen that I've repurposed for my current files. It needs going through.

One shelf. Mostly writing books and my wicker tea box. The next shelf down has most Welsh and Wakes books.

Harry Potter trunk that holds my HP paperbacks; to their left, my fandom books. The shelf below holds my religious books.

Town Crier on a Segway
Somewhere between hitchhiking in Wales and Colonial-Era Town Crier on a Segway is who I want to be. Maybe this is that year. 🙂
Photo: new beginnings
StandardMy daughter’s birthday outfit from yesterday. She’s always trying new things and collects photos of her outfits for her “fashion blog”.
What’s new is how she put this together and it looks so conservative but then she adds a pink leopard hair band and a tan knit beret and she knows how well it works and gives it that stamp of her style onto it.
The boots were on sale at Target and she wanted them because they were so similar to my new boots from my birthday.
Instead of just letting her go with would fire the sake of being weeks, I’m starting to offer suggestions but I also defer to get final judgment. I dint want to discourage get but I also don’t want her to think everything she chooses works when sometimes it doesn’t.
Happy Birthday Baby!
