ICE is NOT law enforcement. We need to stop treating them as though they are. We need to stop allowing them to take advantage of our respect for authority while they destroy our democracy.

They are beating US citizens and leaving them miles from home in parking lots (see Target employee in Minnesota).

They are breaking car windows and holding US citizens hostage without food or bathroom breaks for hours (see legal observer seized at a gas station, again in Minnesota).

They are breaking down doors, guns drawn, aimed at children, no warrants, no restraint, no training (see Minnesota).

What is happening in Minnesota (and in Chicago before it) is not only repulsive, it is undemocratic, it is illegal. When the courts rule it illegal in one state, they move to another one. People are dying.

These rent-a-cops are out of control.

They are not vetted.

They are not trained in the proper use of firearms or deescalation.

They are using personal weapons, they are using rental cars and changing license plates so they can’t be identified. They are not carrying identification and wearing mismatched “uniforms” that I can buy in my local Walmart. Even after the murder of Renee Good, they are continuing to point guns at drivers in cars and threaten them, asking if they learned their lesson from “the other day.”

They are getting all of their training from television and Nazi-wannabes.

I have no doubt that many of them are Proud Boys and other racists as well as the terrorists who attacked our Capitol five years ago. Their pardons have given them free reign over us, at least in their own minds, and the minds of our now fascist government.

The Republican Congress is no better by allowing this to happen with no pushback, no censure, no bills to be offered.

Our only recourse at the moment is to contact our members of Congress and demand that they vote against the CR (continuing resolution) that is coming up for a vote on January 30, which will continue ICE’s funding and terror rampage on our fellow citizens.
