Mason Jar Project, 2013

I’ve seen this around tumblr and Pinterest, and decided that it would be an interesting thing to try out. Even on my best days, I lean towards the negative (although I’d really call myself a combination of a realist and an idealist, but that’s really more complicated than it needs to be). However, with the severe depression (that I will talk about fuller as time goes on) so prevalent in my life this past year, almost to the day, I thought that a jar where I put the good things that happen throughout this year would be a positive thing for me.

    • You start with an empty jar, and whenever something happens or you do something that makes you feel good, you write it down and put it in the jar. Then, at the end of 2013, for the New Year, you can look back on all of the fun things you did all year.

I know that I had a lot in 2012, but it was all drowned out by my depression, and I don’t want that to happen to 2013.

I don’t have a set plan for it exactly. It’s spontaneous and positive – two things that I have the most trouble with.

For example, one of my notes is about all the wonderful comments and likes I’ve received this week right here. I’m not sure I can express how good it made me feel, so that’s something to put into my jar.

      • Wow! What an excellent idea! I think I may want to write about it in a post next week. Can I link back to your post/blog? Would you mind if I did this? If you want you can send me a quote about how it works for you and I can put it in the post. Think about it. Let me know 🙂

    • I am using post-it notes, but it can be any kind of paper folded up, so you don’t peek. 😉 Although, if you need a pick me up, I would recommend going back to read no matter when in the year you need it. Happy New Year.

  1. I did this throughout 2012 and opened it up on New Years Day….it was very uplifting to go through and ‘relive’ the happy moments of last year! I definitively recommend doing this!

  2. That’s such a positive idea to keep one motivated to appreciate good things more. I think I might make one of those myself. People tend to make new years resolutions, set goals that sometimes are way too high and way too unrealistic. Like flying mermaids. I like this positive idea. Good luck and I hope by the end of the year you’ll have two jars instead of one, full of good things throughout the year.
