SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE LOUISE PENNY’s ARMAND GAMACHE SERIES
From “The Kingdom of the Blind: A Chief Inspector Gamache Novel” by Louise Penny:
“These things they loved.”
Armand Gamache speaks about keeping all of his things in a longhouse.*
The good things; the bad things; all the things. Think back. Go back as far as you’d like: a week, a month, a year, a lifetime, and write about “these things you’ve loved.”
*Gamache describes it as an aboriginal longhouse. These were common living spaces for the Haudenosaunee in the area of upstate New York and southern Quebec to live in. It is in this head space that he sees his life in retrospective and puts all of it into its separate compartment, and often returns to it to see the things he’s loved.
